As auto theft continues to rise across the Greater Toronto Area, homeowners are taking matters into their own hands — quite literally.
According to a recent CTV News article, more residents are installing bollards — metal posts that block vehicle access — at the end of their driveways to deter car thieves. These installations are typically retractable or removable and are becoming increasingly popular in high-risk neighborhoods.
“You just lift it up and lock it, and it acts as a deterrent to make thieves move on,” said one Toronto homeowner interviewed by CTV.
The Toronto Police Service has acknowledged this growing trend, recommending physical barriers as part of a broader theft prevention strategy.
At Superior Door & Gate Systems, we’ve seen this demand firsthand. Bollards are no longer just for commercial lots or industrial zones — they’re now part of residential security too. Our customizable bollard systems are built for both safety and curb appeal.
